AKRON, CO — Gerald L. (Jerry) and Virginia A. (Ginger) Allen were the lucky winners of the $5,000 grand prize at the Y-W Electric Association, Inc. Annual Meeting held Tuesday evening.

Each year, a grand prize drawing is held during the Annual Meeting of Members, with all 3,566 memberships in the Association automatically entered. Two attempts are made to select a winner, but the prize is only awarded if the drawn member is present and registered at the meeting. This year, the Allens' name was selected on the first draw, making them the fourth members in the Association's history to claim the prize.

The grand prize drawing began in 1999 as an incentive to encourage member participation and ensure a quorum at the Annual Meeting. Initially set at $500, the prize amount increased by $500 each year it went unclaimed, eventually reaching the current cap of $5,000 in 2008.
